Big Pimpin'
Yep, that is me there on the right in the shade of the Bike Mag tent at Sea Otter. It has been 5 years since I last did it, but it was great to be back! In the tent with me is the world famous Crash! from SoCal and Uncle Dejonge there outside the tent helping some kids no doubt 'Harness the Gnarness'
It was a great trip, complete with 26 hours of windshield time, an alley cat race, sun burn, LOTS of Hamms, and even more peanut butter sandwiches. Got to see a bunch of old pals and make a few new ones.
More soon.

RIP Birdman
Tough year already for the Big D. Been reading a lot about Mark "The Bird" Fidrych the last few days. By the time I arrived on the 1976 Detroit spot, the miracle season he had was done...a true one of a kind man, they don't make them like they used to.

Like Talking To An Old Friend
Jen found a copy of "The Man Who Walked Through Time" by Colin Fletcher somewhere back in Wisconsin last summer. We moved it out here, and it was sitting on our book shelf. Vee was going through our library last week when he was out here, and took On The Road for his train ride to Seattle, and plane ride back to the midwest. I was reminded of how Kerouac, London and Abbey's words used to be the mantle on which I rested my head every night, instilling a wanderlust in me that never really went away.
I think it was when I was around 19 that I read Fletcher's "Thousand Mile Summer". I started reading today, and instantly his words had an offhand familiarity, like catching up with an old friend by the fire:
"...A world in which the things that mattered were the pack on your back and sunlight on rough rock and the look of the way ahead. A world in which you relied, always, on yourself."
It has been raining hard here today, so we've been laying low, cooking, reading the paper, listening to the old squawk box, feeling the freight trains roll through, and for the last few hours, reading.
Very comfortable Sunday, indeed.

News
The Shiny Object is in the new Bike Magazine, and this article about the _3Wrencho popped up today on Bike Radar.
Yeah, global.
Yeah, global.
The Stoke
Living in Wisconsin, I began to loose my stoke for mountain biking. I'm not going to lie. The last few years I rode less and less, and frankly was bored with the trails I did ride. I missed SoCal and the UP. I missed big climbs, ripping descents and views that go on for miles...
Since moving out to the NW, I've begun to find my groove again. Monday, Olson, VEE and I drove down to Hood River, across into Washington and rode at Sincline. Let me tell you mister, that did it for me. The views, the little ring grind up a 2000 foot climb, soaking in a bitter cold mountain creek, sharing it with a couple of old buddies.
It was good.
If you want to come for a visit, make sure to bring a fat tire bike, and we'll ride!
Thats me there in the pic, bringing the BKB close to Mt Hood.

It's All About The Collabo
Just read about this coming collaboration between DC Shoes and SE Racing. There have already been a bevy of collabos to hit the fixed gear bike world: Fuji/Obey, the FixedGear London/Vans bike, etc. But I've long been a fan of both DC and SE, so I'm excited to see how this turns out. I caught wind of this project on the Vapors Magazine blog, but haven't really seen it get picked up by many of the other players. Just have to wait and see.
